Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts
— Thích Nhất Hạnh

What is breathwork?

Breathwork; it’s the simple act of breathing consciously, yet it offers us a gateway to profound physical, psychological and spiritual transformation. It’s a tempting proposition; the possibility of improving one’s experience of life and wellbeing without external or chemical intervention, and its one that is attracting more and more people to the practice. I’ve certainly noticed an uptick over the past 12 months.

Breathwork has no single origin or history. Some methods have been practiced for millennia and are documented in ancient texts, others have been developed much more recently based on medical science and behavioural studies, others have been channeled by individuals and shared with the world. Consequently the breathwork arena is a space crowded with different modalities, a smorgasbord from which it can sometimes be difficult for individuals to understand which practice will be the best fit for their specific needs.

Over the past few years, I’ve undergone my own journey with the breath, experiencing and learning about many different breathwork techniques alongside working towards my qualification as a Rebirthing breathwork practitioner (more on that below). I’ve always loved making connections, it’s something that brings me a lot of satisfaction. So for me, finding the right breathwork match for a person’s needs is very important, and if I can’t offer that particular breathwork, I’ll happily introduce you to someone that can.

the purpose of conscious breathing is not primarily the movement of air but the movement of energy
— Leonard Orr, founder of Rebirthing Breathwork

My principle modality is Rebirthing Breathwork, in which I qualified as a practitioner in 2021. Discovered by Leonard Orr in the 1960s, in his words; “Rebirthing Breathwork is merging the inhale with the exhale in a gentle relaxed rhythm in an intuitive way that floods the body with Divine Energy. The ability to breathe energy as well as air…Relaxation is the ultimate healer. Every breath induces relaxation.” From personal experience, I consider it to be the most powerful tool for for personal transformation and self healing. Rebirthing breathwork has been a catalyst for so much good in my own life, and through my practice at Breathe4Good I’ve been witness to its remarkable healing powers on the bodies, minds and souls of many others too.

Rebirthing is a simple, gentle yet powerful way to release stuck or stored emotions held in our bodies and in doing so to change the relationship we have with ourselves, with our loved ones and with the world. Breathing consciously in this gentle and relaxed way makes it possible for previously unresolved issues to integrate and heal. This frees up energy, bringing greater aliveness and joy in our life, and allowing us to move towards fulfilling our potential as human beings.

At the purest level, rebirthing breathwork offers a bridge to wholeness and inner-freedom, an invitation to expansion and joy.

About Breathe4Good

I’m Emma, and I’m pleased you’ve found your way here.

The journey to Breathe4Good began in 2018, when I discovered breathwork on a yoga retreat. I was immediately hooked! I embarked on an intensive period of practice, study, training and guiding others, and in 2021 I qualified as a breathwork coach and founded Breathe4Good.

But I couldn’t stop there. Having awoken to the world of healing practices, I knew there was so much more to learn. I’ve subsequently trained as an EcoNIDRA guide, completed my Reiki training to Masters level and undertaken an apprencticeship in the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. There’s much more to come too.

Why Breathe4Good? Because I believe this work can only be beneficial; objectives and outcomes will differ for everyone, but I hope you’ll decide to come and explore the good that the healing modalities that I practice can bring to your life.

 Kindness

As we give, so shall we receive. Service does not mean self-sacrifice. It means giving the needs of another person the same priority as our own
— Marianne Williamson

Kindness is in my view a much underrated quality in a world that celebrates power, achievement and productivity. I think we should all spread a little kindness whenever the opportunity presents itself; whether that’s a kindness to a loved one, a cause, the planet or our communities. Remember the butterfly effect - we never know how far our kindness might extend! .

Below are some of the ways I actively try to be kind through Breathe4Good.

 Charity of the Season

Each season, Breathe4Good supports a good cause about which I’m passionate, with profits from Green Shoots Gatherings, our mini-retreat mornings and journey series’ donated to the nominated charity.

Spring 2024 – Womankind

Over the past 12 months, we’ve been supporting Womankind’s projects in Afghanistan. Denied many of the most basic human rights since the return of the Taliban in 2021, the situation for Afghan women has become even more dire over the past year. I want to continue to shine a light on their plight and stand in solidarity with women risking their own lives to improve the lives of other women.

Plant a Tree

Every time you book a 2 hour 1:1 breathwork session with me, or a Weleda Signature facial, I commit to planting a tree through the charity Tree Sisters.

Fundraising

Profits from standalone workshops and events are always shared with relevant charities. Over the past 12 months, we’ve been able to support charities including Beyond the Streets, Advantage Africa, War Child and Peace Direct.

Testimonials

  • "I have been having breathwork sessions with Emma for 9 months now and it has really helped me to cope with stress and anxiety. Emma is patient and understanding and allows you to use your breath to not only face difficult situations but to explore feelings and emotions that are causing stress and anxiety. I would highly recommend Emma to anyone who is looking to explore the power of breath"

"Wow, what an incredible experience working with Emma and doing the breath workshop. It was my first time, so all new to me. Emma talked me through the whole process so I knew what to expect and made me safe so I could just surrender to the experience. I could feel all this energy and tingling in my body. I highly recommend it"

"I think you were amazing - I felt very safe and like you were really gauging what I needed and responding to that. I felt heard, cared for, loved even, just for being me. With the first song echoing that, I experienced a profound sense of being ok, just as I am - and that doesn't happen very much. I know that today's session has helped with 'shifting' some unhelpful, unnecessary emotions"

"I wasn't sure how to approach the breathing techniques at first but Emma has such a soothing and calming voice that it immediately puts me at ease. I always look forward to our sessions especially if I have had a particularly stressful day. She instinctively knows how am I feeling and by the time our session has ended my breathing is much more measured and I am a lot calmer. I would highly recommend her"

"Emma is a wonderful breathwork teacher. Her style is very caring and compassionate, and nothing is too much trouble. She really puts her heart and soul into ensuring that you have a fulfilling experience, and creates a safe space for you to explore the practice and gain whatever you need in that moment. In her wider life she combines her passions for yoga, breath, poetry and the joy of the outdoors, to bring strength and happiness to her teachings. I thoroughly recommend Emma and have enjoyed working with her on my journey of discovery"

"Emma is a wonderful gifted breathwork coach, she is intuitive nurturing and very present to one’s needs. Her coaching style brings about a beautiful atmosphere of calm and serenity in which one feels held and as a result our breathwork sessions have produced some amazing insights for me"
